Cashback promotions by sports betting and online casino gaming platforms in Brazil are, in a way, part of a tradition. They are a long-standing feature of the Brazilian retail market and will be included in the government’s upcoming tax reform.
This study looks closely and particularly at online gambling cashback offered by major gaming brands licensed by the Brazilian government in 2025.
In order to enforce Responsible Gambling (RG), Article 29 of Law 14.790/2023 specifically prohibits the granting of “advances, prepayments, bonuses or prior advantages”, such as welcome bonuses.
Cashback works differently. It is the refund of a percentage of a transaction and, unlike now-illegal welcome bonuses, cashback rewards past spending, which is the case of most retail transactions.
Naturally, online gaming cashback policies must also be in line with RG principles. While not specifically mentioned in Law 14.790/2023, nor in the Brazilian Consumer Protection Code, the practice must comply with the standards of transparency, fairness and truthful advertising.
Therefore, this study examines how the top 10 Brazilian gambling brands conduct cashback promotions and loyalty programs.
Key Study Insights
- Cashback is available in 5 out of the top 10 gambling brands.
- The different types of cashback promotions are percentage-based, tiered and targeted, and may be subject to a capped amount.
- A minimum loss value is required by 3 out of 5 operators, ranging from R$10 to R$100.
- Frequently offered to recent or returning players, money back bonuses are chosen by 42% of players.
- Among other payback bonuses, female players are more likely to choose free spins, while male players are evenly split between all types of bonuses.
Research Methodology
This study draws primary data from ENV Media’s own surveys on sports bettors’ preferences and iGaming incentives. We also draw real online casino usage data to provide examples of user behavior. In order to assess the functioning of online gambling cashback promotions, we tested the websites of the top 10 Brazilian gaming brands in 2025. Lastly, we contextualize our findings via secondary research and latest regulatory updates.
Ongoing Casino and Sports Betting Cashback Promotions
Among the top 10 online gambling operators in Brazil, 5 currently offer cashback promotions. However, while cashback bonuses always come with certain benefits, the features can vary from one brand to the other.
The main aspects of these active promotions are the following:

The major brands therefore tend to follow a similar pattern when it comes to cashback bonuses.
Unique Selling Point (USP) Assessment
Cashback promotions are limited to specific events by only 2 of the analyzed operators. For example, one of them offers a cashback promotion that is only valid during the summer season.
However, tying cashback promotions to specific games is a common practice among licensed gambling operators in Brazil.
Of the top 10 operators, 6 brands have targeted their cashback bonuses to certain games, particularly in the online casino and live casino sections. By contrast, 2 brands tie their cashback promotions to games from specific providers.
In both cases, players will only be eligible to receive cashback on these pre-selected games.
Cashback Rules
Most cashback rules are included in the Terms and Conditions section. However, some may be specific to a particular promotion. In this case, the specific rules can usually be found in the promotion description itself.

Promotions and Players’ Preferences
According to ENV Media, when considering a new sports betting site, attractive bonuses and promotions are the leading factors in the choice of the largest group of Brazilian sports bettors – 62%.

For those looking to stick with their favorite betting platform, bonuses and promotions are even more important.
Attractive bonuses and promotions come on top for 71% of players, even more so when compared to those who are looking to switch.
Evidently, regular incentives and promotions are highly appreciated and one of the strongest retention tools for loyal gaming fans.
Cashback Bonus
As mentioned earlier, this type of bonus offers a refund of a specific amount or percentage of an online gambler’s net loss.
This is one of the most favored bonuses and it’s a way for the operator to return a portion of the money that the user has lost over a gaming session or a set period.
Cashback bonuses are typically given in the form of money or credits for use within the casino, and they’re particularly appealing to players who wager large amounts.
Top Choice Bonuses Overall
Considering that welcome bonuses are no longer allowed, money-back schemes are chosen by 42% of players. This kind of bonus provides a “safe play” mechanism, frequently offered to new or returning players.
In terms of popularity, it ranked ahead of welcome bonuses even before current regulations kicked in (40%), as it is more straightforward, simpler to understand and has less requirements compared to most signup bonuses (e.g., wagering requirements and game limitations).

In terms of age and gender, the preferences of Brazilian sports bettors, are as follows:
- 25-40 year-olds prefer “Random Prize Drops” above all promotions. This is the cohort that is often settled in their careers, personal lives and routines. They show the most active predisposition towards exploring the majority of bonus options – “Cashback“, “Boosted Odds“, and “Free Bets” and “Free Spins“ are almost equally favored.
- Females predominantly choose “Free Spins”. Males, however, show a rather evenly distributed preference among all types – from Free Spins, Cashback offers, Welcome and Deposit bonuses, to Boosted Odds and Free Bets.
Thus, promotion preferences may vary by gender, even though most players are of the same socioeconomic class and age group.
Real Online Betting Usage Data Reveals Player Behavior
Our in-depth study on online sports betting showed that the biggest segment of players bets between R$10 and R$50 per week. Moreover, a combined 54% (more than half) of players wager less than R$50.

Given the existence of cashback caps in most online gambling operators in Brazil, it is therefore possible to conclude that cashback offers cover the majority of sports bettors’ habits.
According to data on players’ behavior, 36.7% of customers who received cashback in 2024 share the following characteristics:
- The average account age is 288.5 days.
- The largest share of players is located in Rio Grande do Sul – 26.62%. In second place is São Paulo – 20.14% – while Minas Gerais is third – 11.63%.
- As for categories, regular players are the absolute majority – 98,24%, while VIP players account for 0.50%.
- Regarding marketing channels, Refer-a-friend brought in 11.77% and Influencers account for 8.35%.
While most Brazilian players are concentrated in Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo and Minas Gerais – 58.39% – they are also average customers – 98.24% – who fall within the weekly budget between less than R$50 and R$100.
Importantly, of the total, 20.12% rely on friends and social media influencers to recommend online casinos and sports betting sites. This indicates that word-of-mouth and influencer marketing are important drivers for communicating with customers.
Conclusions
Our analysis highlights that the vast majority of players who benefit from cashback offers – 98.24% – are average customers who maintain the same level of engagement and spend.
This demonstrates the ability of Brazilian licensed operators to deliver value to their customers while strictly complying with Responsible Gambling principles.
As the top 10 brands follow a pattern for cashback bonuses – refunding a part of the value lost – these offers not only build customer trust and brand loyalty, but also reflect the licensed operators’ strong commitment to fairness and sustainable growth.
